Botany and Espelette

The word "pepper" refers to both the plant, pod, seed, spices and condiments that are learned. The peppers are fruits, often sharp, taste more or less hot. Chili belongs to the genus CAPSICUM of the Solanaceae family (two thousand varieties, ninety kinds of potato through tobacco, eggplant and tomato). It should be noted that the peppers are particularly sweet, thick and fleshy peppers. The name comes from pebrum old Provençal.

The pepper is native to South America and Central America, its culture spread rapidly around the world.

It was introduced in Europe in the late fifteenth century as a result of the voyages of Christopher Columbus. The Portuguese took them through their outlets in India, Asia and Africa, where he acclimatized very well.
