The word « pepper », stands for the plant, the clove, the seed and the condiments that are made out of it. These chilli peppers are rather sharp pointed fruits, more or less spicy.

The chilli pepper belongs to the CAPISCUM kind in the Solanacae family (2000 varieties, 90 species, from the potato to the tobacco including aubergine and tomato). Its name might come from the old Provençal word« pebrum ».

The chilli pepper comes from South America and Central America, its  culture  rapidly spread all over the world.

At the end of the XVth Century, thanks to Christophe Colomb voyages, it was introduced in Europe. The Portuguese brought the chilli pepper to their colonies : India, Asia and Africa, where it got acclimatized quite easily.
